About Waiara

Waiara is situated along the banks of the Waikato River in the Reporoa valley 15km from Taupo.The Maori translation for Waiara is the path of water or can be interpreted the birthing waters. Both interpretations have meaning to us.

The property was leased in 2018 and then purchased in 2020. Part of the long term vision for Waiara is to be a community of Christians with a simple faith with a heart to love God, each other and for our community. We relate Waiara to being like a contemporary monastery without any religious traditions or structure. Like the monasteries of old we hold to three simple foundations.

Here are a few thoughts about what Waiara . . .

Waiara is a place of thoughtful expression of God’s love to our community and each other.

Waiara is a place of common and neutral ground, a place of peace. Where our diversity is our strength expressing the essence of oneness and our creativity in Christ.

Our foundation is based on relationship with God and each other expressed through prayer and worship, work and love to our community.

Waiara is a place of healing and rest. Where our communion with the trinity is found in the open place of His creation.

Waiara is a place where you can think less about yourself and more about our oneness and union in Christ together. Sonship is born out of intimacy.

Waiara is a place of refuge by nature, but it’s focus is always upwards and outwards.

Waiara is a hub and is inter-tribal and inter-denominational.

A place of gathering together for refreshing in His presence.

Waiara embraces His simple gospel of love and grace found at the cross in the death and resurrection of Christ Jesus.

Don’t be pulled in different directions or worried about a thing. Be saturated in prayer throughout each day, offering your faith-filled requests before God with overflowing gratitude. Tell him every detail of your life, then God’s wonderful peace that transcends human understanding will make the answers known to you through Jesus Christ. So keep your thoughts continually fixed on all that is authentic and real, honourable and admirable, beautiful and respectful, pure and holy, merciful and kind. And fasten your thoughts on every glorious work of God, praising him always. Follow the example of all that we have imparted to you and the God of peace will be with you in all things.
